It was a hot, breezy and dusty day of grounders, grinders and fly balls during the Special Olympics State Summer Games on Oahu June 2nd thru 4th. The Unified Softball team from West Hawaii “Green Machine” gave it their all, but had to settle for 5th place in some hard-hitting competition. If your wondering “What is Unified Sports”, here’s the answer:
Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding. Believe me, our Unified Players walked away from this tournament with high admiration on the skills and determination from our West Hawaii Special Olympics Athletes Isaiah Wong, Robbie Sanoria, Marinna Takahashi-Ruiz, Sanoe Wong and Byron Pabre. Let’s all Unify the Unity of Special Olympics Unified Sports!!!!
